A communique says we exploded a mine yesterday near Fricourt, destroying a large portion of the enemy's parapets. The enemy suffered considerably, both from the explosion and our artillery fire following it. Apart from intermittent artillery activity to-day is quiet.

January 19 4.25 x.m.- Reuter's correspondent at Paris asys the Montenegrin Consulate, I za a statement, says: It is unfortunate, but Montenegro had to aubmit to the inevitable. It may be taken for certain that the King and the Government only yielded after the army had exhausted the int cartridge. Even fight was impossible with the enemy on the Entiers and hostile Albanians in the rear. The conditions of surrender, details of which come from enemy sonice, may be dis cussed interminably. Opprobrium may be heaped on the unfor tunate vanquished but this can in no wise detract from the sublīme role played by heroic Montenegro in the great war.
