Japan is suffering from a scar- city of ship material, according to a report published by the Depart- ment of Commerce, Washington. The report states:—In the pass | shipbuilding material has been supplied by Great Britain, Bal gium, and Germany. As the last two countries are unable to ex- port, we looked to England to supply the whole demand, but British manufacturers, after take ing orders from within their own kcountry, are unable to respond to other orders. Accordingly, we bare no other alternative but to import from the United States. The steel materïs! supplied by - the United States is quite differ- ent from that of Great Britain and Japan.
