Signalling at Sea. With regard to

the official notice aslling for greater efficiency in signalling at sea, both by day and by night, on the part of oundidates for Board of Trade certificates entitling them to com- raand or officer British ships, the Imperial Merchant Service Guild have pointed out to the Board of Trade that merobant captaion and officers do not receivo adequate encouragement in this respect, especially most merchant vessels are not provided with equipment for signalling by night and by day. Danish Shipping.

Government, prohibiting further The decision of the Danish

sales of tonnage to bayers abroad, has aroused strong opposition in Danish shipping circles, although, garded with satisfaction. It is in other quarters, the step is rə pointed out that while only 28 steamers, with a total gross ton- nage of 64,000, have been sold to foreign bayers einco January 1, 1915, no fewer than 85 vesela, aggregating about 85,000 gross tons, have been either built or bought from abroad.
