Since the beginning of this year, he has been drawing £800 per annum as Interpreter, & Acting Register Gen. & Since the 4th of June £900 for annum; a good salary after ten years' service.
Ever since 1866 he had been drawing a higher salary than that guaranteed to him on the terms of his agreement. But he has not been having the salary of £500 attached to his position of interpreter of two years' standing.
I fear that as a matter of right we must admit the claim to these arrears, but to say the least of it he will be very lucky to get them.

I think he must have the increment guaranteed to him. If the Colonial authorities considered the pay too much, they should have made their bargain with him in giving him beyond his acting appointments he held. Would give him what the contract says and nothing about arrears. He has been done no substantial harm, having held appointments of greater value than the one alone.
