A shipment of 275,000 oz. has S. C. Morning Post been made from San Francisco to Hongkong. Messrs. Mocatta and Goldsmid's weekly circular dated London, August 12, states :-The silver market has shown consider- ably more activity this week, The chief cause has been the an- nour cement that the US.A. mint had bought about $50,000and was expected to be in the market for a further amount. This caused a steady advance on the 9th and 10th to 221; on the 11th buyera held off and there was a reaction to 22.9-16. To-day however, there was a renewal of ordere both from Indis and the Continent and the quotation has risen sharply to 28.1-18, at which price the tend- enoy is rather uncertain.
