A BUSINESS GOVERNMENT.
a
It is new some years since the genial Mr. Bottomley created certain amount of fluttering in the Home dovecotes by suggesting that Britain might be a little better off in various directions if she would "run" her governing on business lines. Many men before him had had the same ides, though perhaps they were less readily listened to; but it was not till some while after war had broken out that the public in general realised how great was the need for some Inch form of government, Gradually it became evident (we only Eay "gradually" out of compliment; as a fact it was evident from the beginning) that the Radicals could never carry a war through they were not bails that way;" and, to their credit be it said, sitor a while they gave, or implied, an admission to this effect. To make things better, a Coalition was agreed upon-and things at once showed signs of improving, albeit they still remained a inconveniently long way from perfection. Then came another suggested improvement which, happily, was acted upon; to wit: the placing of the munitions contres under the more or less direct control of men sobooled in the ways of business and the handling
of labour.
The Rev. R. J. Campbell.
