Japan's Production of Dyestuffs,
The Japan Times reports that a better understanding has been reached already between the au- thorities concerned and the pro jestore of the dyestuff enterprises now in course of promotion as to the amount of capital to be called into use and other pointe. "There: fore, it is now a setiled fact that a companyutkast will be established 50oner or later for the manufacture of dyestuffe. But there are many difficulties in store for the pro- jectore. While the authorities] concerned desire to have a big stable concern established instead of many competitive companies insufficiently ficanced, manufac turers interested are far from consenting to the amalgamation of their plants, mainly from the clash of interests among them. The Oak Gas Company, for in- stance, will not join the projected opterprise as it has a contract with the Government Iron Foun- dry at Wakamatsu for the supply of ecke. The Mite ni and the Mitru Bishi firme also will not be enlist- ed in the new enterprise, though they turn out large quantities of coke themselves, for they desire to operate in the new field quite independently. The Mitsui firm has already commerced ite dis tillation of ocal tar and the pro- duction of dyestuffe, having 50,-

If all others refuse to be enlisted in the new project, therefore, the project can be at least realized aconer or later, In that case, Lowever, the new company thus established must be prepared to face competition from independ- ent firms outside the pale of the Government protection bat strongly financed, when peace is restored and the import of cheap aluff kecomes possible.
