THE INCESSANT BOMBARDMENT.

DESPERATE BATTLE WITH CROWN PRINCE'S ARMY.

September 9, 6.25 p.m. Renter's correspondent at Paris states:-Besides the continua. tion of the bombardment of German positions on many esctors the feature of a communique is the violent fighting against the Crown Prinos in Argonne. The battle was specially desperate the whole night long at Fontaine sux Charmes, the Germans renewing their attacks with great persistence, but the French line, with the excep tion of a portion of one trench was everywhere maintained. We made prisoners.

THE MUNITIONS QUESTION.

MR. LLOYD GEORGE AT TRADE UNIONIST CONGRESS.

September 9, 6.25 p.m. Mr. Lloyd George, in addressing the Trade Union Congress, emphasised the fact that Britain is making a prodigious effort to increase the output of war material. He asked the congrass to nesisk to the utmost, and declared that he required eighty thousand more skilled maohanics besides two hundred unskilled men and women, Organised labour must suspend its restrictions in regard to the employment of unskilled labour and any other regulations hampering the increase of the output. This might make the differ- anos between victory and defeat. There must also be no stoppages during the war.

French neroplanes dropped fifty bombs on the Challorange station and a French dirigible attacked the station and factories of Noale,
