Appalachiao Metal Output, The value of the mine cutput of gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc in the Esatera or Appalachian States in 1914 was $11,487,707, against $12,413,300 in 1018, ac2 cording to H. D. McCaskey in o statement just made public by the United States Geological Survey, The figures for 1914 represent the production of 81 mines, of which 45 were gold placer mince (mony of them saiall), 36 deep gold mines, 7 zino mines, and 7 copper mines. There woe an in- crease in the production of gold and of zine in 1014 as, comparad with 1913, but the yield of silver, lead, and copper was smaller. The gold output from all mines was 8 397.36 fine ounces, valued at $173,689, an inoreses of 380.- 03 onnosa in quantity and of 87,856 in value from the pro- duction of 1913. The silver out- put, recovered entirely as a by- product in refining the gold and China Fire Ins. Co., Ld.......$162 b. copper produced, was 100.727 'kong Fire Ine. Co,, Ld. ......$420 Ens ounces, valued at $55,702, a. decrease of 10,487 ounces in quantity and of $11,471 in value. Of the 48 producing gold placera in 1914, there were 24 in Geor- gis, 12 in North Carolina, 1 in Alabama, and6 in South Carolina. The average recovery of gold.
