Since the outbreak of the great war the shipping activity has been kept up with unabated William Powell, Limited: 6 animation, and even Tessela of hundreds of tons have fre- quently ventured out on ocean- going services to the South Sena, eto. On this account few ships have been available for the tran- sportation of Hokkaido timber, The steamer freights have gone up so high as to make the export of cheap-priced goods like timber almost prohibitive. The con- signors either deferred the ship ment of goods or had the con- tracts cancelled altogether, Under these circumstances, how- ever dull the building ciroles in South Manchuria may have been, the shortage of supply bas naturally caused a rise in the timber market of Manchuria.
