Submitting a sum of £5000- to the Subsidiary Coinage. Unfortunately, I am not aware of the proportions in which the Coins will be sent out, but if there is time to make any alteration in the orders given, I would propose that the greater proportion be in 5 cent pieces.
The last quantity of these Coins was sold at 10 per cent premium, and there are none now in the market. Of the 10 and 20 cent pieces, however, there is a great scarcity, and the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank hold in their vaults $17000 of the former and $4,000 of the latter, which can be procured at par.
Thus, there is not the same urgency regarding the supply of any but the five cent pieces.
I have the honour to be, My Lord, Your Lordship's most obedient humble Servant, R. Kennedy, Governor.
