Shanghai Piece Goods, The market during the week has continued very firm, and in many lives has advanced consi- derably. At Yuenfong anction bleak Italians were up a "mace "and a half, and both greye and whites were up as much as three to four candareons. Buyers wITH very enger and eales quick. At Kangping sales were very active at "good prices. Black Italiads and fancy goods were particularly strong. Everything offered was greedily snapped up. At Exo, everything, offered realized an advance in price. Woollens and blacks were most conspicuous, greys were slightly, whites were steady.

American Copper." The American copper situation, ao far as exports are concerned, is not without its mystery. There baa been talk of an enormous demand for copper from Europe but exports do not bear cut these claime, says The Wall Street Journal: The shipments of copper from the Atlantio ports in April amounted only to 37,080,000 lb, against nearly 80,000,000 lb., in the corresponding month of lat year. It has been enggested that Germany has been a large purchaser of copper in the United States, but the copper is not shipped; it is bold in storage. The report goes that Germany was buying copper in order to keep it away from the Allies. That report can be taken fo: what it is worth.
