I fear, as I have stated, little chance, of the names of the blues being removed from the feet of Jurors. Nevertheless, & many add that the Court has always shown itself ready, time to time, to exempt from duty any juror, whose absence from his post would seriously interfere with the due prosecution of the business of his employers, and already on occasion, the Agent of the Company obtained leave to absent himself from the Criminal defence.

6. Partly foreseeing, however, the manifest inconvenience to the Mercantile Community generally which might arise from a stoppage in the Telegraph Office being called away, and holding the opinion that it is desirable to have as far as possible a uniform practice throughout the Colonies regarding the liability to serve, I shall be prepared to invite the Council next year to grant the exemption for which application is made if it has been granted in India and the Straits Settlements. Meanwhile, it will be necessary, I think Your Lordship will agree, to leave the question in the hands of the Court, though I will early communicate with the Acting Chief Justice.
