A recent despatch from Sir W. 8. C. Morning Post
Egerton gives estimated figures
of possible production, which are
very suggestive of the opportuni- ties lying ahead in this portion of the Empire if present and prospective demands are to be adequately met. The supplies of sugar for home consumption now controlled by the British Govern- ment are being steadily depleted, and the need must soon arise for s' renewal of discussion as to how the cutting off of Continental supplies is to be further met. The policy which was perhaps sufficient and defensible in pre war times must be considered afresh in the light of the ex- perience gained during the rust few months; and the longer the war lasta the more imperative becomes the necessity for re- examination of the Imperial sources of supply of this indis pensable commodity.
