THE FIGHTINg at hooge.

June 24, 1.05 p.m.

The story from the British headquarters states that the fighting al Hooge was desperate in the extreme. Such was the impetuosity of the British that the enemy trenches were carried in a few minutes. None of the enemy's devices could check the khaki figures dashing forward in the grey light of dawn. Numbers of the Germana bolted and thus escapod. The remainder were bayonetted or captured. The demoralisation of the prisoners, mostly Wurtemburgere or Badenets, was complete. They dropped their rifles and prayed for mercy, evidently expecting to be shot.

In Britain there was ample hospital accommodation available and likewise medical personnel, including consultants. A convales cent hospital was not being organised locally, but the matter is constantly engaging the attention of the War Office.
