Chinese papera state that, the Minister of Communications proposes to establish a large shipbuilding yard at Shanghai capable of turning out both ocean-going and river steamers, It is to be a joint concern between bathe Government and the merch- ants, the former subscribing $20,000,000 and the latter $30,- 000,000 making up a capital of $50,000,000. To encourage. private shareholders, the Govern ment is to forego any interest on its money.
Built by Yangtse Engineering Works.
"The steamers are all fitted throughout with electric light and have accommodation for a limited number of saloon-passengers. All steamers carry a duly qualified surgeon. Cargo taken at through rates to all ports in Netherlands-India and Australia."

The third river gunboat Kung- Sheng, built by the Yangtze Engineering Works to the order of the Hupeh Government, was Bucossefully launched at Saren Mile Creek on June 4. Har length is 110ft, overall, and being built for use on the Yangtze has a draft of only three feet, Sle has a speed of about eleven koots and it is anticipated that with har very light draft, she will be able to visit such places as Changaha and Siangtan even when the water is lowest. The total ocean tonnage entered and cleared at Shanghai during the quarter ended March 31, 1915 Blows a decrease as compared with the same quarter of the year before, from 3,882,087 tons to 2,983,320 tons, a loss of 919,667 tons.
