GALLIPOLI.-THE NATURE OF the ground.

"The following is a part of an eye-witness story" from the Dardanelles:

June 13, 11,20 a.m.

I spent cone time in the reserve trenches to-day, examining the ensmy's position. Our front trench-line was visible, less than half a mile away. Four hundred yorda beyond was the enemy's first trench, loopholed at every yard. Behind this were rowe upon rows of Turkish trenches. The view was bounded, left and right, by ridges hiding the sea, and was clowd in front by the Achibaba barrier with the central poak, six hundred feet high, dominating everything in sight.

It is reported from Taingtam that all restrictions against British shipping have been with drawn.

German forces are reported by Hugo osptures of Austro- the Russian communique of yesterday.

Good work is being done by the Italian airmen and artillery. Italian progress in all directions continues.

According to one of our special cables, a Chinese soldier attacked four English ladies at Nanking, atabbed one and injured another.

The Tark, despite these advantages, is not satisfied. Dar airmen report that he is constantly and feverishly, digging in fresh places. It is generally estimated that the enemy are able to bring four or five ecrps to the defence of Gallipoli, but the Anglo- French and Australasian troops are in the best of spirits, and confident of their ability to expel the enemy from any position. I learn that Maidos and the enemy's headquarters at Chanak suffered severely from fires ensuing from the naval bombard mente.
