Pacific Coast Ships. Seattle, Wash., April 16,-- American' steamship, companies operating between Seattle and Alaskan ports and Seattle and San Francisco, were notified by the British admiralty to-day that all German, Austrian and Turkish passengers or members of the crews would be removed from any yeasel calling at a Canadian port and held as prisoners of war. As a result of the order, the Pacific Coast Steamship Company discharged ten German members of the crew of the seamship

Cunard Company" and the War, At the annual mesting of the Cunard Company at Liverpool the Chairman (Mr. A. "A. Bɔoth) said that in recommending a bonus of 10 per cent., in addition to the 'vidend of 10 per cent. the directors considered that they were acting in the best interests of the shareholders. They also decided that they would still for. ther strengthen the financial
gave them the opportunity of reinvesting the bonus in Ordinary shares of the company at their par value, using part of the unissued capital of the company "for this. purpose. So long as the present war continued they must be prepared to con dact their business on an en- tirely abnormal basis. The passen ger business, which was usually their mainstay, had shrunk to very small dimensione; At the same time 16 of the company's steamers were engaged on work for his Majesty's Government, or for the agarts of the Allied Powera. On the other hand, there was at present a large demand for freight tonnage between America and this country. At present, more than 15 cargo. steamere were running under charter in the Atlantic, and they had entered into engagements to take up further tonnage. They were also carrying on an im portant business with chartered atcamera between Liverpool. and Havre. When the war was over it was certain the business would not drop back info just the same groove. ag. before. They might have to contract în oas direction and expand in another, but ha could, at any rate, tell them that he was confident that the Canard Company would be in a strong position at the end of the war to stend the strain in the reconstruction period. Refer ring to the suggestion that the success of the company was entirely due to the agreement made with the Government in 1003, the Chairman said that if the same proposition was put be- fore him to-day he should dealing it without hesitation, on the ground that the consideration was not a fair equivalent for the risk run and the services rendered,
