An Ordinance 18 of 1871.

modify the Regulations of the "Chinese Passengers Act 1855” was
Passed by the Legislature of this
Colony on the 11th September, 1871.
and approved by Despatch No 150
2nd December, 1871.

In Schedule B of this Ordinance
(Regulation XI), it is enacted that
Owners & Charterers & Ships shall
pay the following fees for the "remuneration" of the Migration officer (the Harbour Master,) in addition to all fees chargeable under Regulation X; namely:-

Upon application for Certificate - $25 Upon granting Certificate $25
3. Mr Thomas the Harbour Master, was absent from the Colony when the Ordinance came into operation and his locum tenens paid the above mentioned fees into the Treasury, during such absence.
4. On Mr Thomas's return to the Colony, and resumption of his office - he retained these fees to his
preceding which was queried by the Acting Auditor General.
