The Cotton Trade.

Mid Americanı hava bien de- olining during the week, the latent New York quotations being 975 cents July and 10.14 cents Octo- bar, The latest Liverpool quota- tion is 5,80d. Maroh/April 1016. The market in Bombay is week, There was not much activity in the local cotton market, and (here a« slight deoline in prices. All the yarn markete have been dall. Prices in Osaks are re- ported to have advanced slightly yesterday. The political situation has affected the piece goode market much more than in the case of others. The Yonen Fong saction for this week had to be postponed. Bikam Rubber Estate, The report of the Bikam Rubber, Estate, Lad, states that the orop of rubber harvested for the year amounted to 241,573 Iba., against an estimate of 280,- 000 lbs., and a yield in 1913 of 218,233 lbs. The shortage in the orop was principally due to the unsatisfactory weather conditiona which prevailed in the Sungkai distriot. The average gross price realised was 2a. 1,40d. per Ib.— London equivalent. The coat of production free on board at port of shipment, including manager's ommission, bonus to staff and depreciation, was la. 2.24d.,

against 15.6.dad. in 1913. The all- in cost (London), including war risk insurance of 0.27d." per Ib. amounts to ls. 4.98d;, against 18. 9.90d. in 1913. Seven acres were cleared and planted with rubber; which brings the cul- tivated ares up to 1,000 acres. The estate is in good order, and weeding rates, while still expen- sive on the low-lying aress, show "s farther reduction over figures for previous yeare. The manager estimates the crop of rubber to be harvested in 1915 at 300,000 lbs. The not profit for the year amounts to £0,043, to which must be added the amount car- ried forward, £2,750, making tugsther £11,803. Out of this the directors propose to transfer to reserve account, for develop- mant, £2,500, and they recom mend the payment of a dividend of 10 per cent, £8,000, leaving to be carried forward £3,303. The Embargo on Tin. March 22. Although

Applicationsforlicences to ex- port the metal, it is stated, will ba entertained, but it is antici. pated that the difficulty and delay in obtaining the necessary per mission will be so great as to seriously hamper.export business. hence the heavy selling Friday a market. London is the principul distributing market for the metel, and the restrictions, if meintained for any length of time, will tend to divert the business through other channels. The United States draws her supplies of Straits in largely through London, and may now take more of the metal direct from the East, thus causing some disturbance, of shipments to this country. I is to be hoped that the facilities granted to exporters will be sufficient to prevent any undue interference with the London trade. The Times.
