"The Copper Supply,
In the copper statistics kr the first balf of March a more scour ate, statement of the stocks in England and France is made (ban ban been possible since the begin- ning of the war taya The Times," oxing to the inclusion in the present retorns of official figures giving the ticks in Havre a8 1,08 toas. Eitherto the Havre stock, has stood at 5,536 tone, as recorded on July 31 last, the decrease ficco the outbreak of war being thus 3,551 tons. Thie adjustment, coupled with smaller quantities afloat from Australia; and Chile, has reduced the Euro- pean visible supply to '28,402 tope, an sgainst 34,375 tons on February 27 last. Evidence of the increasing production in the United States is shown in the large arrivals from that country during the fortnight of 16,184 tour, án against 10,604 tons for the whole of February. On the other hand, shipments from Spain and Chile were small owing to shipping difficulties, and the Sapplies were easily absorbed, the deliveries to European consumers amounting to 28,782 tonf, or 70 tons less than in February,
Imports of Pulp into Japan. Toe fears that the war would; Beriously interfere with the cupply of palp for paper-making, say a contemporary, have not been realised, the import for the whole year in 1914 being 45,340 tons,; a decrease of only 2,120 tons on that of 1913. In January and February of the present year 8,000 tons were imported, which isquite equal to the ordinary trade. Formerly the pulp, though mainly Swedish, ured to be distributed from Germany and Austris, but it soon began to arrive direct and via London, besides new supplies from North America. There was even a certain amount from Ger- many, while non-oor traband goods were given passage. It is feared that the increased ferocity of the naval war will stop the European supplies reaching Japan, but the: deficit can be supplied frems Canada. The Japanese paper which supplies this information says that European shippers are refusing long forward contracts and that all orders are being de- Isyed a fortnight to a month, but supply is pleatiful and no market fluctuations need be feared.
Dyes for England and Russia.
The Board of Trado announces that in order to mitigate the ef- fects of the shortage of indigo for dyeing purposes aused by the pro- seat war, and also to prevent uny speculative holding up of natural į indigo, Hie Majesty's Government has acquired the greater part of the crop of natural indigo now coming forward, for the use of dyo users in the United Kingdom. An interesting extract from the Ruariad Press is published in this week's Pord of Trade Journal, to the effect that a syndicate has bean organised for the purpose of forming a Russian company to es tablish works for the manufacture of dyes and chemical products from nativa raw material. It is stated that as long ago as January last capital amounting to over six, million roubles had been promised or subscribeû. Some of the largest industrial concerns, especi ally around Moscow, are interested in the proposed undertaking, such firme as the N. N. Konsbin Com- pany, the Danilov Manufacturing Company, the Tabaer Company, the Tversk Manufacturing Com- pany, and the Emil Teindel Manu facturing Company, etc., being included in the syndicate. The plone for the establishment of this undertaking have been conceived on a comprehensive scale, and will provide, inter alia, for the erection of special laboratories, under the direction of properly qualified professors and assistante, for experimenting with material
