Fraser und Co.'Singa. rore share our cular dated the 14:h inst. etater:-There has been a light expansion in the amount of basin se passing since our last issue of Merch 18, and the gener- al, steady appreciation in the home markets has been reflected to a certain extent here, although the Block Exchange restrictions cartail business considerably in all sterling shares, keeping our quotations still more or less no minal. Shanghai Cotton Market. Mr. A. B. Rosenfeld's Cotton Market Report for the week end. ing 15th April, 1915, is 8 follows:-
China Colton. The upward tendency of prices continued dur! ing the past week, and values were carried some three to four points above the level ruling last week, making a total advance of over One Tael since the inception of the present Bull movement. feature of the market was the. heavy profit taking, although dfferings were easily absorbed and failed to make impression on prices antil yesterday, when a further advance was anticipated.. No further explanation isrequired for the continued strength of the market than the recent advances in Mid-Americans, and Indians enabling Exportera to Japan to buy China staples at prices not at all commensurate with those' ruling in Indis. It would, there- fore not be surprising, should the disparity in price still icon- tinue, that their attention to our market be concentrated to an extent the like
which we have not experienced for the past three or four years and which would naturally cause an inflation in the local rates. The Yarn market both bars and in Japan: for the last week has been in a very healthy condition, prices having advanced some Tle. 3:00 for local spinnings on resales, whilst in Japan an advance of some 4 Yon within the last week hes been recorded and the market. closing with a firm undertone. In native cloth there appears also a better feeling and from prosent indications a much larger business is anticipated, the sitaation pivot ing on the attitude of the native banks. The end of this month and the first couple of weeks of the next with planting season nester maturity and the usual estimates of stooks left in the interior and local merts will on- able a fresh start to be made in calculating the outlook for the near future. Meanwhile our market will continue to be ruled by developments in Mid-Ameri- cans, Indians and the holding policy of the Farmere.
