Ulu Pleh-Directors' Fies.
Penang, April 7.-The share- holders of Ulu Pish at the annual meeting adopted the report with the exception of directors' fees which were reduced to $4,000 There was a long discussion re- garding the nopointment of directors Mr. S l'ar was.. re- elected by five votes to two, but Mr. Cranford prodrord twenty- two proxies and secured his remov al. Mr. Craw'ord was elected a director supported by proxies Mr. M. O. Corbett was re-elected a director. There was consider- able criticism of Mr. Crawford's methade and objection was also taken to Mr. Corbett osatiruing to be manager on the ground that he has a large interest in the con cera and is also a diector Yangtze Ins. Assoc. Ld. Straits Times.
London, Singapore and
Java Bank
The report of the Lndon, Singapore and Java Bank, Limit- ed, states that the Eastern busi- nela expanded remark bly in the first half of the year, but was Laturally somewhat restricted Ister, owing to the war, which tenporerly stopped all exchange transactions between Earopen the East Indies. The gross e rainga for the year to December 31 were £13,408 and the net profile £7,421, as.com- pared with £8,753 gross earnings and £4,500 not profits in the pre- vious year. The profita represent about 14.48 per cent. on the paid up capital, as against 900 per pent, in 1913. A dividend of Uj per cent. (being 12. per share on A abarca and 6 oo B share), less income tax.) id 1ecommended, which will absorb 12,821, and compares with a 0 per ornt, divided, free of tax, for the year 1913, The directors propose to add £2,500 to reserve (against £1,500 last year), raising the reserve account to £5,000. I; is also recommended that a further portion of the profita be applied to writing down:-Investmente from £57,300 to £56,000, premisesi from £6,280 to £5,800, and fürni- tore and fittings from £702, to £600, making the total to be written £1,889. The balance of the year's profite, £280, with £575 brought forward, it is pre- posed to carry forward. Tho year'sturnover on current accounts shows an increase of 27 percent.. ompared with the previous year, and the amounts on deposit have nearly doubled..
Tin and Singapore, That extremely .consitive barometer the tin market he's steadied on the receipt of definite news from Singapore, says the Times to hand by, last mail. When on Friday dealers received brief, vas ne, disquieting cable- grame from Singapore they knew that trouble of some sort had cocarred. They read into the mesange that there would be a stoppage of tin supplies, and a ries esined of nearly £10 per ton in the quotations for three months' metal, The recoil bas been rapid, but there are still some features: of interest in the position, which many believe farcurs a further decline in quotations at least for forward delivery.

As regards "Societe des Pulpes et Papier-1
the near position, supplies are oming more freely from Bolivia and other getree of production to Great Britain, and at the same time the check on indirect im-} ports into Germany through Dentral marketo, is beccming more stringent as information accum. ulates regarding the channels through which trading with the enemy is conducted. A warning has just been issued by the Erme "Office regarding dealings with a particular firm in Stockholm. At the moment, however, the market ia more concerned about the position of Holland. There is a report that 2000 tons of the Banea stocks which have been withhold from auction have been sold by Holland to Germany, and the truth or otherwise of this! atory should be known when the Datoh statistics are available next week. Those who anticipate relief in the position for near dates should not overlook the faot that owing to the delays in transport and delivery it takes a visible supply to meet requirements than under normal conditions.
