ports but an increase in imports Shell T'port & Trading Co.. Ld.91/0

Be compared with the totale for February, 1914. The volume of foreign trade in February, that is, experts and imports together, declined by £11,800.697, as conm- pared with the figures for the corresponding month of last year. Tae tots of exporta and the aggregate of importe" for Tabru-i ary, 1913 February, 1914 and February, 1915, ere as huder:

1913. 1914.

1915. Effort

40.172 743 41,261,707 26,178,937

ITIN

63.787,150 62 053,651 05,208,814

Thus, the ex, cits, Jost menth were lower by £15,084,860 thap in February, 1914, and by £13, 995,806 bun in Eebruary 1913 while the importe last month were higher by £3 215,183 than in Feb., 1014, by £1,481,864 than in February, 1913. This is the fint increase in imports recorded since the war broke out, and, although it is largely due to the higher prices of foodstuffs, scol, and other articles, it shows to how small an extent the war and the German "blockude" has affected our foreign trade.

Japanese Wheat for Europa. The steady rise of price on the four market in America bas turned the buyere in Great Britain and France to Siberia for supply. As reported previously a brake bas been applied by the Russian, authorities on the export of Siberian and North Manchuria wheat abroad. The export of this cereal frem Japan has been going on for some time and, now that the export of Siberian wheat ia discouraged, that of Japanese product promises to wax livelier. We cannot tell what is the exact outlook of the wheat crops in the United States this year. Neither can we foresee what the market tone, there will be like after the coming harvest. At all events, the export from Japan will be pretty well sustained atleast until the new crops in America find their way to the market in the form of flour.

The Wheat Crop. Delhi, 8th Marcb.-A Press communique stotes: Preliminary estimates of the yield of whest have been made in various Pro vinces, and on the area now reported the outturn may be taken at ten and a half million tone, provided that normal weath- er conditions prevail until the orop is harvested. In previous years the acreage shown in thố inal memorandum has exceeded that ehown in the March forecaét by about one million acres, and although some advance on the gure of 32,028,000 acres now reported may be expected, this farther increase may not, for special reasons, be to large se asual this year. The final mem- brandum will not be issued until day, but this year special ar- angements have been made to bablish an intermediate forecast Bout the middle of April, as it hould then be possible to fore

with reasonable accuracythe inal acreage and oniturn.
