Shanghai Coal Report.
Mesars. Wheelock and Cl report for the fortnight emid March 18 states that there has only been a slight business done with patire dealers in Juranero coal, but stocks in Shangbai are decressing on account of the scarcity of tonnage and thỏ bigh rates of freight ruling; although exchange has gone up recently quite appreciably in favour of buyera. the rian has been cff-set by In the increase in freights. Japan stocks of coal at shipping pcrts are also on the decline; this is cbit fly brought about by the increased cativity in the steamer traffic on the Japan coast and Comarquent larger consumption of coal for bunker uso and we think that the market in Japan, having

touched the bottom, is now about angleze Ins. Assoc. Ld. to recover. The Fushun, coal market is still suffering from a shortage of supplies. The Keip- ing cool market bas livened up! considerably since last writing, deliveries being well up to the average and stock till rather below; prices are firm.
י,
Bavril, Ld.
Presiding at the annual general meeting, held in London, on Feb- rusty, 19, the Eirl of Erroll, K.T. O.B in moving the adoption of the report, slated that though the past year had been a dificult one. Bovril had come through with! flying colours, and they were able to show both record sales, (apart altogether. from
Government orders) and largely increased profite. Government, War and Red Cross orders were, alway - supplied by their Company on special tera, which left"only a comparatively small margin off prof. The results for the year' working would have been cop- siderably better were it not that there had been a continual iso in the price of caule. As it took a good eized ox to make a dezen of the larger bottles of Bovril, it was evident the higher cost of dattle most his vo seriously affected the year's prr fits. The apprecia tion of Bovril was not confined to the public at home; put at the front where our soldiers were Bo heroically fighting. Bovril, was a first favourite. In this connection le wished to mention the excell- eat work done by Miss Gladys Story, daughter of Mr. G. A. Story, the Royal Academician. This lady had most successfully organized a "fund for supplying the Army in France with Bovril, Her work had met with the warmı approval of the, authorities,"in- elading General Sir Horace Smith-Dorzien, who, apropos of ber 1ocently published appeals headed "In Commemoration of Lord Roberte," wrote: "No Sug gestion has been so practical asyour offer to provide the men in the iranches with Bovril, and such a project, bringing strength, to our soldiers as it will, would, I aure, hare met with the approval of our noch regret ed lete field marshal." The, Chairman pro- posed a sprcial donation of 100. guineas to the Red Cross funda and this was unanimously agreed to. The Gross Profit on Trading was £304,186, against £284 299 for the previous period, and Stooks of Raw Material, Manu-| factured Products, etc., £282,614, Cash at Bank and On Hood £42,349. and Trade Debtors. £170,926. In conclusion, be stated that here was nota single German or alien enemy employed in their factories either at home or a broad. The Report and accounts wera unanimously adopted.
The Batavia Rubber Market. A meeting of the newly formed Net erlan je ladies Rubber Trude as-ociation was held at B.tavin on the 9th inst. Mr. Kan, who pre- sided, announced that forty tons of ruibir had been promised for "the first inscription sale, while 34 members had already" joined. This number was increased at the meeting to 48. The draft rules and regulations were approved subject to certain minor verbal
