March 15, 3.50 a.m. A Petrograd communique saye :-** Fighting between the Niemen and the Vistula is proceeding on thirty-mile front. The enemy's attempts to advance have been everywhere repulsed.

Rassian counter-attacke on Saturday captured several villages. A violent snowstorm prevails in the Carpathians, but the Rus- gians have advanced near Lupkow Puss and captured 000 prisoners.

Renewed violent German attacks in the Roziouwka and Rozanka regione have been repulsed with colossal losses.

Heavy Attack Repulsed.

March 14, 9.40 p.m. The War Office announces that the enemy made a heavy counter-attack pasterday afternoon, while several minor counter- attacks earlier in the day were repulsed.

Huge derman Losses.

Judging by observations in various parts of the field of battle, and by the statement of prisoners, who now number 1,720, the enemy's loesos must have been very heavy. They cannot have fallen far short of 10,000 in three days.

The War Office states that the following telegram has been received from Sir John French, dated March 13, 1915 —A little further progress was made to-day by the 7th Dirision towards Aubers. Fighting has been very severe, as the enemy was strongly reinforced this morning opposite my right, by at least two divisions. We captured 612 prisoners and there are more to come in. Our aircraft has been very active, and junctions at Don and Deusi were destroyed.

Attack by Submarloes.

The Admiralty announces that since March 10 aeven British merchant ships have been attacked by submarines: three have escaped, two been sank and the fate of two is uncertain.

March 13, 1.15 p.m. Renter's correspondent at Petrograd reports the death of Russian statesman, Count Sergius Witte.

A Swedish ateamer has been torpedoed off Scarborough. Six persons were drowned.
