During the first six months of the year the work went on steadily increasing, and about 3,200 persone a day were placed in employment. Curiously enough, the effect of the war has. bean not to decrease, but very largely to increase, the work of various Exchanges, - As a matter of fact, owing, no doubt, to recruiting for the army, there has been, since the war broke out, a great shortage of labour in some trades and a large demand for
