Heavy German Losses,

Feb. 21, 4.35 p.m. A Paris communique states:- We took a portion of some trenches in the Ypres region which the enemy had temporarily occupied.

"It is confirmed that the enemy left several hundred men on the field. Our losses were alight..

Our gains in Champagne have been maintained. Enemy counter-attcks at dusk failed.

We repulsed in the Vosges on attack on the northern bank of La Feoht and two attacks on the southern banke. We counter- attacked. The fighting continues.

Karlsruhe Sinks Five Vessels,

Feb. 21, 5.20 p.m. The steamers Potaro, Highland Brae and Hemisphoro and two sailing vessels have been sunt in the Atlantic, presumably by the German croiser Karlerahe.

The Dardanelles Bombardment.

Feb. 20, 5.55 pm. The following is in continuation of the account of the Dardanelles bombardment by an Allied Fleet:-

The forts on both sides of the entrance then opened fire and were engaged at moderate ranges by the Vengeance, Cirawallie, Triumph, Suffren, Galois and Bouver, supported by the Inflexible and. Agamemnon at long range.

The forta on the European side of the Straits were apparently ailenced, but one fort on the Asiatic side was still firing when operations were suspended owing to failing light.

None of the Allies' ships were hit.

The action was rohewed to-day after an ascial reconnaiss10cs. The seroplane ship Royal Ark is in a tendance with naval seaplanes and aeroplanes.

Russians Capture 2,000 Prisoners.

A Petrograd communique says that between the Niemen and the Vistula our troops in the Angustovo region are gradually emerging from the sphere of fighting and an action is developing near Ossowieos, on the Lamja Road:

The Press Bureau states that at eight o'clock in the morning, yesterday, a British foot of battleships, battle-oruisers and destroyers, aided by a strong French squadron, the whole commanded by Vica Admiral Carden, attacked the forts at the entrance of the Dardanelles. The forts of Copshelles, and Kumkalo were bombarded with deliberate long range Era. Considerable effect was produced on the two forts, Two others were frequently bit, but it was difficolt to estimate the damage done. A portion of the battleships at 2.45 in the afternoon were ordered to close in and engage the forts at closer range with secondary armament.

A German sahmarine, without warning, torpedoed to-day the Cardiff steamer Cambank, about five miles off Almwych Bay. The vessel had just taken a pilot aboard for Liverpool. A commanique has confirmed the enemy's losses of the past few days as being considerable. According to prisoners, a battalion was destroyed. The Germans modo a fourth attack on the heights of the Meuse at Lesetarges, but were repulsed by artillery fire.
