The tone of the market generally has been easier during the week, due no dou bt to the approaching China New Year Fettlement. Bar Silver is quoted at 22 5/8 per oz. ready. Exobange on London opened to-day at 1/9 T.T.
Banks. Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have changed hende at various rates from $825 down to $800, closing steady at the latter. Marine Insurances-Cantona have advanced to $347.1/2 bayers. North Chinas are unchanged at Tis. 160 buyers. quoted $820 buyers. Tanglezes are wanted at $215, ez. 73.

Fire Insu encer,China Fires are on offer at $150. Hongkong Fires have bayers at $395. ShippingThere are buyers of China and Manilas at $6. Douglasss are offering at $20. Hongkong, Canton and Macao Steam- boats are enquired for at $20, ex. the dividend of 40 conte, after sales of $10.1/2 com div. Indo Chiose have sellers at 966 and probable buyers at $64.
