The Silver market his fluctuated, bars being; now quoted at 22.3/84. per cz. In the Rubber share market there has been generally rather mote activity. Sir Thomas Sutherland, bpon his retirement from the chairmanship of the P. and 0. Company, on 21st inst.. took farewell of the staff at the Londen and Deck (flices of the company. An old Shangbai resident his passed away in Mr. J. A. Meitland, of Maitland and Union Jus. Society of C'ton,Ld.$790 Co., Shanghai, and Thorns. and Co., London. The Shell Transport Company bus declared an interim dividend of 1s, per share. The meetings have been held of the Bekop Rubber E-tates and Chinese Engineering and Mining Company. China Tea at auction bas been quiet, bas steady, Coffea has been quiet, but prices show no alteration. In Sugar transactions have been small at practically unchanged prices. Peppers are inactive, rates showing little change. Rice con- tinues firm, but gaiet. Manila; Hemp also quiet, although aready. Plantation Rubber is rather lower, Standard No. 1 Crepe being quot ed 19. 11 3/4d. per lb,, und Smok- ed Sheet 28.3. per lb. Fine Bard Faro is 2. 0.3/4d. per Ih Straits Tin is £144 10. 10 £145 for cash, and £142 10. to. £143 for three months.
The Journal of the American Asiatic. Association eaye:-Now that ourcommercial statistics have resumed their tabulations of the figures of the calendar year only, the records of the eight months ending with August are not par- ticularly orcouraging in their relation to Asiatic trade. Oar exports to China are two milliona less than they were for the same period last year; ur importa from China remain about station- ary; we have exported nearly a million lett to British India than the figures of a year ago, and over:: four millions less than in 1912; the exports to Japan have drop- ped thirteen millions, although. the imports from Japan have increased over ten millions; and the whole export trade to Asia shows a loss as compared with the corresponding period of laet year, amounting to seventeen mil lions of dollare.

The baffic receipts of the North Manchuria Railway have fallen "'off considerably as a result of the war, says a Diren despatch to the Asahi, ind the company is ex- periencing considerable difficulty in making out its budget for next year.
