New Shire Liner.

There was launched at Balfast. on 17th ult, the screw steamer Pambrokeshire, built to the order of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company for the Far Eastern asrvice. The new vessel, a sister ship of the Carmarthenshire, launched in October, is 485 ft. in. length, with a gross tonnage of over 8,000, and has been built under special survey for the highest class in Lloyd's Register, besides complying with the re quirements of the Board of Trade for a passenger steamer, Accom« imodation for a few first class passengers is provided in comfort- able state rcoms in a large deck- house amidships, while the poop and bridge spaces are so Biranged as to be readily made suitable

It is announced from SanTM Francisco that the Union Iron Works has signed a contract with officials of the United Statia Navy Dapir ment which will result in the construation of a G. $2,000,000 dry dock at Hunter a Point. The Nottingham Port Scheme.

In view of the fact that practically no unemployment exists at Nottingham and no due empant is probablo, the Gov ernment has withdrawn its offer of £50,000 towards the cost of deepening the river Trent betweed Nottingham and Newark in order to make Nottingham an inland port. The City Council has, not Withstanding, decided to proceed with the scheme.
