Dec. 17, 10.50 p.m. It is officially announced that, in view of the state of war arising from the action of Turkey, Egypt will. henceforth constitute a British Protectorate. The sazerainty of Turkey is thus terminated.

The British Government will adopt all measures necessary for

the defence of Egypt and the protection of the inhabitants.
