Zealand the reason for this is explained by the fact that up till a few months ago residue oil stood at a very high bigors on the British markat, Of late, however, we have witnessed a considerable drop in the price of the commodity, benca
at the present time there is con siderable inducement to build hot bulb cargo carrying vessele for the home trade service. For some little time the war will certainly hold back to some extent the building of motor driven cargo carrying vessels for British owners bat once we get near the end of hostilities, unless the price of fael oil and the European markets again rise (which we may say is far from Bikely), there is every possibility that there will be more heavy oil engined industrial vessels built in Britain for home waters than аге built for service in other countries. At the British Consulate General, Kobe, on November 13,
Naval Court of Inquiry was held to investigate the circum stances attending the burning of the Mitre Line steamer Shirley, in the Pacific, while on a voyage from New York to Yokohama, v.a the Panama Canal. The Court consisted of Mr. B. G. E. Forater, Consul General, as President, and Captain J. A. Mitobell, master of the 1-0, steamer Fookeang, and Captain Chae, Anderson, master of the sailing shipDaylight. The Court, after hearing the evidence of Captain 1. J. Mace and the principal officers of the Shirley, found that everything possible was done to save the ship and cargo, and that she was only abandoned when to have remain- ed on the vessel any longer would have imperilled their lives. The Court therefore saw no ground for blaming the conduct of either master or crew.
