Tobacco 'in China.

To his report on the trade of Chefoo for the year 1913 M. Consul Willie says, with regard to imports of tobacco, that the contest between the British-Ameri- oan Tobacco. Co.'s chesp pro- ducts and the Japanere manufac tu ere is as keen as evor. The experiment of the British Ameri- can Co. in growing tobacco in the neighbourhood of Wei-Liai Wei, which was commenced about: five years 1g, is apparently proving a success. Toe native farmers are being encouraged by the company to grow tobacco, and it is interesting to nole that the Chinese there hold their own sgainst modera methods of oulture.
