British War Loan.

In the course of his unancial statement in the House of Commons, Mr. Lloyd George said he wis making proposals not merely to meet the increased expenditure to March 31, bat the deficiency in ravenue. The total sum for which provision had to be made was £535,000,000, ordinary and war expenditure, and the additional money which bad to he found was £330,571,000. A fäll year of war £500,000,000 will be raised in two instalments, would cost at least £450,000,000.

He proposed that the income tax should be doubled, but this year it would only be collected in respect of one-third of the income. Mr. Lloyd George announced an extra three-ponce on tea and a half-penny on a half pint of beer. It was necessary to borrow $230,391,000, to carry me to the end of the financial year. It was also desirable to have some surplus, hence he proposed a loan of 2350,000,000 at 8.1-2 per cent., the issue price being 95, redeemable at par on the 31st of March, 1928. A hundred millions have already been offered to the Government.
