▸ Daring a heaving N.E. gale at Taku on November 2 the steamer Guthrie, 2,338 tons, built in 1884, dragged her anchors and went en ashore on the Bar. The heavy founding started her plates and she settled down, only her upper works remaining above water. The French steamer Tatoutse and the Falee stood by but the craw remained on board, gathering on the forecastle. The Guthrie, which was formerly owned by Messrs. Burns, Philp and Com- pany and was employed on the run between Australia and Hong- kong in company with the Airlie, was purchased in 1913 by Mesara. Galanser and Company of Tientsin and, under the British flag, was engaged in the transport of caltle and frozen meat to Vladivostok for whiob purpose her No. 2 hold was insulated. She had recently. undergone an extensive overhaul at the New Engineering Works and left again for the North on- September 15.
