The Fall of Tsingtau.
The news that Tsingtau hao fallen brings a welcome measure of relief to dwellere in the Far Eest. From the very beginning of the investment no one can have entertained a rearonable expects- tion of the Germans being able to offer successful or long resistance to the Naval and Military forces of Japan, whose bravery and ability were proved by the reduc tion of the mach mera powerful fortress of Port Arthur nine yeɛra sgo. In the attack on the forti- Gictions of Teingtan from the sea, H.M.S. Triumph would appear to have taken a very prominent part and to have lent very powerful assistance; and although Great Britain has been represented in the besieging Army by small contingents of European and Indian troops, it would seem from the casualty lists as far published that they have taken but a minor part in the opera- tions. The blockade of the leased territory of Kisoohow was declared by the Japanese Admiral on August 27 and the first on- counter by the Army landed for the purpose of investing the garrison of Tsingtan occurred exsetly one month later: The garrison has thus held ont for seventy days.
