man to put

in charge of the Ara. He had

a man but had told him

procured to wait at my

house instead of

at the Court and as it was late to fetch him then, I told the

Bailiff to accompany me to the

Steamer, but instructed him not

to come on board with me but

to wait to go the

man when I had made a seizure of the vessel and bring off who was to take charge.

When I arrived

on board on

the main deck I asked for the Captain

and was taken

to

the upper deck where Danes the

Captain,

and M. C. de la Forest the Acting French Consul, Mr. Conil, the Agent of the Messageries

Maritimes, and several other gentlemen. I took out the Warrant and showed it to the Captain

and said that I had

come

on board under authority from the Vice Admiralty Court to arrest the vessel. My appearance and errand were evidently expected on board for the French Consul immediately

came up to me and said "what is that I replied it 'have received orders to detain the' vessel," and showed him the Warrant. He immediately said
