I was have called upon the Officers of the Customs to stand by and assist me in case resistance was offered. There being no Customs here, I applied to the superintendent of Police to let me have the assistance of the Water Police in case I required it. I requested him not to produce his men till I called on them to assist me. About 4 p.m. while I was engaged at Government House a paper was handed to me. It informed me through Denny of Mr Francis' office that the Warrant of arrest of the "Ara" was ready and that I would be held responsible for any delay in the arrest of that vessel. I felt that I had to accept the position.
