Police.
Can't of High Court call in the and That violence and resistance were reasonably expected is confirmed by the fact that on my approaching the crowd the ladders were raised), when only the Marshal was on board. Again in this Colony the Police perform certain duties which would in Great Britain fall upon the Custom House Officers, as for instance at the wreck of the "Cplint," the Police Boats remained at the spot and showed lanterns at night; and the Police also are placed on board Emigrant Ships. The Marshal would according to precedents in England first call upon the Custom House Officers for assistance, but here there are none, it therefore follows that he must apply to those Officers who discharge part of these duties.
The above is a question treated of purely a legal one, and, I have therefore merely given an outline of my opinion, not presuming to assist the Law Officers of the Crown, who must have been able to settle this conclusively. It is more than I can hope to do.
