Approved and Covered the Police
Hulk and had the boats moored.
Having first seen the Vice Admiralty Court for the seizure of the Messageries Maritimes Steamer "Ava" Approved by myself towards that ship and longed for her for some little time.
I was then hailed by the Marshal of the Vice Admiralty Court who was standing on the gangway of the "Ava".
I ordered my ladders to be hauled up upon the gangway about to be approached.
The Marshal then called for assistance and said his authority was resisted.
I signalled the Police boats to surround the vessel without boarding.
The Marshal then requested me to apply to the Commodore of Her Majesty's Naval Forces for assistance.
I left the Police in their boats to await the Marshal's orders. I then proceeded to Her Majesty's Ship "Princess Charlotte" and saw the Commodore, who declined to act except under orders from His Excellency the Governor.
