I cannot refrain from remarking that this Officer, though engaged as Counsel for the Messageries Maritimes Company and being present at, and cognizant of the whole proceedings, never took the obvious course of pointing out to all parties concerned, that they were about to commit an illegal and unwarrantable act, which might have resulted in a serious collision between an armed force and the French Authorities.
