of the Court (before which evidence being taken), issued a Warrant for the seizure of the Mesageries Maritimes Steamer Ava.

8. The Warrant having been placed in the hands of Mr. Pamechup, the Marshal of the Court, that Officer proceeded on board the Ava, and, having called to his aid armed Police, effected the seizure of the Ship, despite the remonstrances, threats, and protests of the Commander of the Ship, the French Consul, and the Chief of the Staff of the French Admiral, whose ship was closely anchored.

9. Your Lordship will observe from the accompanying papers that Mr. Damochy, the Marshal of the Vice Admiralty Court, was supported and assisted in this course by Captain Superintendent Deane, and a body of armed Police.

10. The Steamer Ava was boarded and seized by Mr. Damochy about 4:30 P.M., the Ship being appointed to sail at 6 o'clock P.M.

11. The whole of this proceeding took place without my knowledge or approval, and also without the cognizance of the judge of the Vice Admiralty Court.
