LOG.BOOK.
Pacific Freights.
The Japanese conference of Pacifio steamers has been dissolv- ed, remarks the Asahs, and the v Hongkong conference has been in practically broken up by the with-- drawal of the Blue Funnel line, the Nippon Yasen Kaisha, and Sailing Date the Osaka Shosen Kaisha. There was every indication that there would be an acute freight war on the Pacific, but now, owing to tas outbreak of the European warg the Hamburg-Amerika, Canadian Pacific, and Royal Mail Steam Packet liners have either been. commandeared as transports or have been withdrawn for fear of capture. The only lines now plying are the Great Northern," the Nippon Yaad Kaiehs, the Osaka Sbosen Kaisha, and the Toyo Kisan Kaisha, bat although the supply of bottoms has thus deoreused, there is no rice bat rather a decline in freights. Some difficulty, however, is being ex perienced in booking space for the shipment of wheat from americe, which will begin shortly, so at present no freight war is likely to develop. Although freights are lower for me lines of goods the rates quoted for wheat are now a good deal Ligher than before the .... dissolution of the conference.
