So far it has certainly made it no easier to enter in a small launch or boat in moderately rough weather. The breakers on both bars are as bad as ever and that the narrow channel 100 feet wide

It has not been possible to examine the effect this Iest north-east monsoon has had on the dredging done so far. Should it be found that the channel has filled, a further expert opinion, would seem advimble,
Lloyd's Return. The returns compiled by Lloyd's Register of Shipping, which only takes into account vessels of 100 tons and upwards the construction of which has actually begun, show that, ex- clading warships, there were 477 vessels of 1,722,124 tone, grosa under construction in the United Kingdom at the close of the quarter ended June 30, 1914. The tonnage now under construc tion in the United Kingdom is about 160,000 tons less than that which was in hand at the end of 28th Aug., 10 a.m, last quarter, and over 281,000 18th Sept..
