to Siberia,262 Under this heading, the Geo- graphical Journal, in a recent Issue, contains two remarkable papers by Dr. Fridjof Nansen and Mr. Jonas Lied. Mr. Lied des cribes a voyage of exploration from Stettin, through the Kara Soa, to the mouth of the Janerei, which he undertook in order to examine the possibilities of direct maritime communication between North European ports and the coast of Northern Siberia, Dr. Nansen; who accompanied Mr. Lied, has collected important data concerning the ice currents, depths, and other factore bearing on navigation in these Arotic regions The outcome of their joint expedition enables one to take a hopeful view of the valuë of thie Kara Sea route for the eventual transportation to Europe of the varied products of Central and Western Siberia, To Edga land the economic development of Northern Siberia is a matter of importance.
