I have the honor to inform Your Lordship that a draught letter has just been received from the Acting Chief Justice pointing out some alleged defects in the state of the Law on the subject as it stands at present. There is no time now to consider Mr Ball's views, and I must therefore satisfy myself with merely reporting that this Government entertains doubt as to the expediency of submitting the Ordinance for Her Majesty's approval until further opportunities of looking into the question have been given.

I do not consider it advisable to delay the transmission of my Predecessor's despatch, but I shall address Your Lordships fully on the subject by next Mail.

I have the honor to be, My Lord, Your Lordship's most obedient humble servant,

Governor
