They desired that Mr. Lau Chu-pak. should be thanked for setting the pace as he did. Then Mr. Ho Fook and family said they would like to erect a work hall in me- : mory of a daughter and sister. and for this purpose the sum of $1,200 was generously and gladly subscribed. The hall was to ba named after -Ho Lai-king. Mr. Ho Kom-tong presented $1,000 for a play ball to be named .after his wife, who was still living, Shi Lin-yuk. Then Mr. Chan Kai-ming donated $1,000| for the building of a playground, to be named after his mother. The speaker went on to mention other subscriptions of smaller a Mr. Wong collecting auma, $700. Shanghai. Received June 26. Five thousand First Division troops revolted on Wednesday night, looted Kalgan and set the town afire.
They ravished females, killed all who resisted, and carried through an all-night orgy.
They bolted in the morning towards Mongolia, The foreign residents are safe, owing to 400 troops holding the bridge lending to the eastern section of the
town.
[Kalgan is a Chinese town situate 110 miles north-west of Poking, opposite the passage through the Grest Wall. It is the chief omporium of the Chinese tea trade with Mongolia and Siberia.]

China with reference to overland Customs duties on goods entering China from Russia, whereon a nominal five per cent, duty is collected, less one-third rebate, in accordance with the Rassin-Chinese Commercial Treaty of 1881. On the other hand, Chinese goode entering Russia have to pay the fall Russian duties.
A similar situation' exista in Antung, where China alao fails to receive reciprocal advantages from the Japanese.
STRANGE SHANGHAI AFFAIR.
REPORTED KIDNAPPING OF PARTY LEADER.
Shanghai. Received June 23. According to the China Press it is understood that Li Yuen-cha, the head of the now Tungmeshni, was kid- napped and carried out of the Settlement at Shanghai on Tuesday night. Ifis whereabouts are at present unknown.
It appears that Li Yuen-chu was invited to dinner by two men at a restaurant in Foochow Road. From there they conveyed him by carriage to a steam launch lying off the Band.
The Chinese authorities had offered ten thousand dollars for Li. Yuen-chu's arrest.
