"Morra". The Chinese, especially of
the lower orders,
are greatly addicted
to it, and when played for many hours consecutively by six or seven players at night in the neighbourhood of European residences, as is frequently the case, it forms an effectual preventive of sleep. Its prohibition, like that of Street cries, will only
extend to certain districts.
The noisy, offensive, and ___ dangerous trades - provided against by Section ✓ have now
become a
serious annoyance in some
neighbourhoods, and are
found
to
require
an easy and effective remedy than the existing state of the law affords.
It will be observed that
to this class of nuisances, and
the game of "Chai Mur", the remedy
can only be enforced by
Summary Summons taken out in the ordinary way.
Section VI was inserted at the instance of the Acting Chief Justice and seems to afford
a useful safeguard in certain cases.
Section 1 incorporates the Ordinance with that of No. 11 of
1845.
