The defence was that the da- fendant was forced by disbanded Chiness Soldiers who "boarded the launch at San Mi and threat- oned the master that if he did not convey them by his launch they would hold it up.
Mr. Gardiner said that he had fresh evidence as to the forcible
entry.

Convicted Defendant Wants to

A Chinese was charged, this afternoon, before Mr. J. R. Wood, with being in unlawful possession of 22 lbs. of loose opium at on address in Bonham Strand.
Mr. R. O. Hatahisan, Superin tendent of Imports and Exporis prosecuted, sud Mr. F. O. Jenkin, instructed by Mr. P. W.Goldring, defeaded.
The defendant was fined $2,000. Mr. Jenkin asked whether the defendant could purchase the opium for $1,000, but Mr. Wood replied in the negative, unless Mr. Hutchison would let the defendant have it.
